MAG C presents Inside The Empty Box, an exhibition bringing together the shortlisted artists from the very first edition of the MAG Grant.
Selected from over 800 applications across India, these artists were handpicked by curator Jesal Thacker to respond to a singular proposition — to create a new body of work within a 6 x 6 ft empty space.
Each artist was allotted a box, an empty cube, to occupy and transform. The brief was simple and challenging: to create a site-specific work that remains rooted in their existing practice while responding to the constraints and possibilities of the space itself.
Inside The Empty Box is not just an exhibition, it is a gesture of support — an effort to provide space, visibility, and patronage to young and emerging voices in Indian contemporary art, and to imagine what can unfold when a young artist is simply given room to create.
