Shiv Shankar was born in 1999 in Bihar, India. He pursued his Bachelor of Visual Arts with a major in Painting and a minor in Graphics from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University of Baroda, Vadodara, in 2022, followed by a Postgraduate degree from the Department of Art, Media, and Performance at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, Delhi-NCR, in 2025. Rooted in his personal and regional context, Shankar's practice engages with memory and caste-based discrimination prevalent in and around his home state of Bihar. His works not only address the persisting injustices and social hierarchies within his hometown but also extend to broader themes of patriarchy and prejudice.
He has actively participated in several group exhibitions, including Peers Continuum: A Relay of Reciprocity at Khoj Studios, Delhi (2025); Origin Story by Kalakriti Gallery, Delhi (2025); Lateral B(/)inds by Immerse Fellowship and India Art Fair at Stir, Delhi (2023); Falling through a Signal with -out-of-line- by FICA, Delhi (2023); and Pristine at Priyasri Art Gallery, Mumbai (2022), among others. Shankar was also part of the Student Biennale, a collateral event of the Kochi Biennale (2022).
He has participated in residencies such as the Peers Residency at Khoj Studios (2023) and Immerse 2.0 Fellowship in Mumbai (2023). He is a recipient of the Space 118 Grant and Mentorship (2022-23).
