Introducing Krishi Shah (b.2000), an Indian artist from Mumbai currently based in London. She pursued her BFA from California College of the Arts, San Francisco, USA. (2018-22) and MA, Painting, Royal College of Art, London, UK (2025-26). She primarily works with watercolour and natural pigments on fine muslin, described as “woven wind,” whose translucency allows light and air to permeate the surface. These works move between the sublime, earth and atmosphere, unfolding as windswept fields of rhythm, air, and luminosity. The horizon becomes a threshold of tension, a site of push and pull. When the elements meet, a quiet grandeur emerges, producing an inner stillness in which one is immersed and detached, held within a continuous movement that feels alive and transient. Colours form breathing fields that shift with the viewer’s presence.
Grounded in Jain philosophy, her practice reflects on the tension between constructed human desire and the larger forces that exceed it. Within a world driven by speed and accumulation, the paintings propose a shift from a human-centred to a planetary lens, where attunement replaces control and detachment becomes a way of reconnecting with the elemental rhythms of the world.
